this past week

not a lot is going on around here. alanna spent the weekend at danny's parents house, so it was pretty quiet in our house... except for the fact that malcolm is currently obsessed with "the nightmare before christmas", and we've been watching it non-stop since friday! but of course he likes it, he is my son, haha, it's in his genes. alanna also loved it when she was little. she said that we've watched it so much that i am going to get sick of it, and then i will want to sell my collection. but i told her no, i've honestly probably seen it 100 times, and i still notice new details that i had missed. it really is such a work of art, and i love it sooo much, even on repeat.

on sunday we went for a lovely stroll. it was so nice and warm out, that i had to take off my sweater and walk in just a tank top. wow, i love perfect autumn weather. and have i mentioned that i love the greenway?! yeah, i think i already have :)

malcolm has now mastered walking down the stairs by himself


we only have 3 stairs, but he can get down them alone really well

i love their huge caterpillar (they also have a beautiful butterfly, but i didn't get a photo of it)

malcolms new mobile

look what i made! this cute little mobile for malcolm's bedroom. i used a set of ceramic "the very hungry caterpillar" ornaments that i bought when we went to the eric carle museum in ma this summer. i had planned on hanging them on our christmas tree this year, but was worried that lil' naughty might try to get them off, and they would get broken. i saw this mobile, and thought that it was cute, so i used her idea and made my own.

i just used a wooden embroidery hoop, painted it red, and hot glue-gunned the red cord around it. pretty simple, but a bit time consuming. i'm really happy with the results :)

our weekend

we had a very nice weekend. on saturday, our friends chris and lianna came down from richmond, and we all went to the flea market at the fair grounds. i seriously cannot get enough of that place. it is so much fun looking at all the old stuff, i could seriously spend hours there. malcolm was pretty cranky because he needed a nap, so we didn't stay very long. i wish we could have spent more time with them while they were in town, but they will be back again in a couple weeks.

after the flea market, we drove out to dannys parents house. the little town that they live in has a nice park on the side of a lake. it has a new playground that was built by kaboom, so we took the kids to play.

after the park, we stayed for dinner. vicky made us vegan stew and an apple pie. sunday wasn't too exciting, we just hung out around the house. we did go grocery shopping for the week, and we went to the brand new trader joes that opened on october 30th. it is about 5 minutes from our house, and we wanted to go last weekend, but when we pulled into the parking lot and saw all of the crowds and chaos, we decided to drive 20 minutes to the other location. danny doesn't do well in large crowds, haha. so this was our first visit. we've been really good lately about making a meal plan for the week, making a shopping list, and then buying only the items we need. it really has saved us so much at the register. plus i had some coupons that saved us $13 bucks at our regular grocery store. yay for being frugal!

autumn stroll

here are a few photos from our evening walk today. it was perfect out. i wish the sun didn't set so early. we could spend much more time out in the lovely fall weather, if it wasn't already totally dark by 6 pm every night. bummer, stupid daylight savings.
