our weekend

we had a very nice weekend. on saturday, our friends chris and lianna came down from richmond, and we all went to the flea market at the fair grounds. i seriously cannot get enough of that place. it is so much fun looking at all the old stuff, i could seriously spend hours there. malcolm was pretty cranky because he needed a nap, so we didn't stay very long. i wish we could have spent more time with them while they were in town, but they will be back again in a couple weeks.

after the flea market, we drove out to dannys parents house. the little town that they live in has a nice park on the side of a lake. it has a new playground that was built by
kaboom, so we took the kids to play.

alanna found a little buggy friend

of course he wanted to eat the bread instead of feed it to the ducks

this toy spun around fast, they loved playing on it

after the park, we stayed for dinner. vicky made us vegan stew and an apple pie. sunday wasn't too exciting, we just hung out around the house. we did go grocery shopping for the week, and we went to the brand new trader joes that opened on october 30th. it is about 5 minutes from our house, and we wanted to go last weekend, but when we pulled into the parking lot and saw all of the crowds and chaos, we decided to drive 20 minutes to the other location. danny doesn't do well in large crowds, haha. so this was our first visit. we've been really good lately about making a meal plan for the week, making a shopping list, and then buying only the items we need. it really has saved us so much at the register. plus i had some coupons that saved us $13 bucks at our regular grocery store. yay for being frugal!

autumn stroll

here are a few photos from our evening walk today. it was perfect out. i wish the sun didn't set so early. we could spend much more time out in the lovely fall weather, if it wasn't already totally dark by 6 pm every night. bummer, stupid daylight savings.

geese fight, haha!

new favorites

last night

and again this morning!

malcolm is currently obsessed with this dvd! he has been watching it on repeat for the past two and a half days. he doesn't really watch much tv, nothing really interests him enough to sit (or stand) and watch it... until now. my mom gave him this movie last year for christmas, and we tried to watch it a few times when he was a lot younger, but he didn't seem very interested. then he found it on the dvd rack this week, and ever since, he has wanted to watch it nonstop! first thing he did this morning, was head downstairs for breakfast, and grab the dvd case to hand it to me. it's pretty funny. i'm glad that he has found something that he really enjoys. most babies have a favorite lovey, or stuffed animal, or blanket that they take everywhere. but not malcolm. just that damn binky, haha! plus i think it's a cute movie, so hopefully it will take a while before i start to hate it :)

these are my current favorite things! danny found them all at our local whole foods. i haven't had a marshmallow in over 12 years, so i'm not sure how true to the original they are. but to me, they are delicious!

and we've tried three of these so far. my favorite is the jokerz (like a vegan snickers bar). alanna loves the twilight, of course, haha (like a vegan milky way bar). and danny likes the mahalo (like a vegan almond joy). yummy!

share. play. love.

eric carle recently made a post about fred rogers on his blog. he included a link to the new mr. rogers' neighborhood page on pbs.com. it is so cute, and features songs, games, interactive fun, and 30 original video clips from the classic television program. there is one with mr. rogers and eric carle together. i especially love the video about how crayons are made, i can still remember the first time i saw it on tv as a child, and how much i loved watching it. i really loved this show as a child, so watching these old clips makes me very happy. check it out here!

(p.s. i totally want this!)

halloween 2009

on friday we received this halloween care-package in the mail from my mother. she is so sweet, and always sends us little treats. thanks mom!

for the past four years we have taken alanna trick-or-treating at the mall. it is an easier and safer way to celebrate the holiday. plus it's climate controlled, haha. our neighborhood doesn't have many kids, so no one really hands out candy here. they did the mall-wide trick-or-treat on friday the 30th this year, instead of halloween night. alanna met up with a few of her friends from her old middle school. she had fun walking around with them, and not us. she is such a typical teenager already, haha. here are the kids in their costumes before we headed over.

malcolm was a lil' garden gnome

our neighbor across the street let me take some photos of him in her garden

alanna went as "sally" from the nightmare before christmas. my mom made the dress by hand for me about 9 years ago. it's still a little big on alanna, but she looked great in it this year

malcolm really liked walking around with his pumpkin pail. he had fun collecting candy, and was good the entire time

since most of the candy isn't vegan, i decided to make a few holiday treats for our family to eat. this is a pumpkin cheesecake (with a soyatoo web)

and my favorite treat, chocolate peanut butter balls!

the weather was beautiful on saturday (halloween)

we had dinner at a new burrito restaurant that just opened out here. the food was delicious!

then we drove out to dannys parents house to hang out with his mom for the evening. we watched a couple shows on food network, of halloween inspired cake competitions. vicky made us some cupcakes, and malcolm loved them. he has such a sweet tooth, just like his dad

we had a very happy halloween!
