happy valentine's day!

the way to my family's heart is through their stomachs, so to show them how much i truly love them, i made these!

i hope you all had a very nice day, even if you don't care for or celebrate this silly little holiday. i mostly love it because of all the heart (hart!) merchandise in the stores! :)

happy mail

this week malcolm helped me with his birthday thank you cards. i wrote a little note expressing our appreciation for each gift, sealed and addressed the envelopes, and then had malcolm stamp them with a finger paint "high five"! he loved doing the hand prints, and i love that he was able to sign each one in his own way.

i forgot to post his party invitation with his birthday photos, but here is what they looked like (minus the weird scribble... we enjoy a little privacy) i found the image online, and my sweet husband helped me add the text in photoshop. they turned out awesome! back when we had first decided to throw malcolm a party, i asked him what theme he wanted. he chose rubber ducks, and i figured he would change his mind by the actual date, but he never did. this artwork is from one of our very favorite books by eric carle, and was the inspiration for the (simple) decor at his party.

after creating the invitations and having them printed out at costco (who did a great job, was extremely fast, and charged a fraction of what walgreens was going to charge me!) i stumbled upon these thank you cards at target! seriously!? sometimes i think that target can read my mind. they matched a baby shower invite that also featured the eric carle rubber ducks, but they didn't say anything baby related, so i snatched up a couple packs.

and how cute are the green striped envelopes they came with?! love them. his hand prints turned out so cute. i hope that they have all arrived at their destinations safe and sound.

i went to work for a few hours wednesday night, and came home to a pleasant surprise. back in november i won a giveaway on danielle's lovely blog. this was the first time i have ever won anything like this online, and i was so excited! my package had some trouble getting to me, but finally made it to my doorstep, and it was definitely worth the wait.

i won a prize pack from gypsy05 clothing company based out of hollywood california, valued at over $300! whaaat?! they sent me this, these, and this -which a love. the sweatpants (or j. lo gear -as danny would refer to them) are so soft and comfy, and will be great for lounging around the house... but i wouldn't be caught dead wearing them out in public, haha. thanks again danielle and sarah, i am very grateful to have won!

here's me in my new sweater, i love it!

and the softest coziest sweatshirt ever

also, yesterday afternoon another large box was delivered to our door... a valentines day care package from my mother! she is so sweet, and always takes the time to collect and mail us the cutest stuff around the holidays. we always love opening up the boxes to see what surprises (and treats) are waiting inside! this is just the top of the box, it was full of all kinds of pink & red goodies, including a new apron and some baking items. we love you mom, thanks again :)

january wrap-up

january was a busy month, and i didn't get to blogging as much as i had liked to. february seems to be following in the same footsteps. life moves too fast sometimes. here are some photos that i never got time to post.

we took a trip up the street to the park, without any jackets on!

my reading material
(have any of you ever ordered flor tiles before? if so, do you like them?)

naps in strange places (this is right inside of the front door, and he was angled around the door jam, ha!)

lunch at the cosmic cantina

we all got together for dinner at the local chinese place, to celebrate dan's birthday. i made a test batch of vegan vanilla cupcakes to practice for malcolm's party the following weekend. vicky made this giant cookie with dan's portrait on it! haha :)

happy birthday pop!

vicky took these next four photos of us

malcolm and luc had fun playing together at monkey joe's

malcolm opening up his birthday package from my parents

he loves the bath foam and play razor

and like any true fan, he insisted that i put his name on woody's boot, just like andy did. if anyone asks him what it says, he says "andy" instead of "malcolm", haha. he cracks me up so much, i just love him to pieces.

malcolm's third birthday party (photo overload)

we threw malcolm a party last sunday, on his birthday. we had friends & family over to our house for a little food, fun, and of course, lots of cupcakes! malcolm had a blast, and the party was a hit. i hope everyone enjoyed themselves, i know the kids did, it was a wild rumpus over here! since i was busy with the party prep etc, i recruited grandpa dan to take photos with his fancy camera. thanks pop, they turned out great!

compton, danny & annie

malcolm chose a rubber duck themed party :)

the cupcakes! :)

i made three dozen cupcakes the day before. vegan vanilla, and vegan chocolate, with fluffy buttercream frosting. they were wonderful! and i think they turned out pretty dang cute.

getting ready to sing "happy birthday"

malcolm blowing out his candles (sorry my big head got in the way)

he loved it, haha!

we are very grateful for all the wonderful gifts that were given to malcolm. he really is so super spoiled by everyone we know. he truly loved everything he received, and after opening each present, he would say "oh, that's what i wanted!" even if it was something he had never even seen before, haha. and we were sure to have him thank each person before going on to the next gift. we are doing our best at raising him to be thoughtful, considerate, and polite. so far, so good.

little dexter playing with malcolm's new tonka truck

i think i was saying "does it fit?!", haha. i love paul frank.

losing momentum...

the castle was from vicky & pop, and he loves it!

this trike was his gift from my mom and dad. they bought it from amazon, so it was sent straight to us and we put it together the night before the party. it's pretty badass. thanks again guys :)

garrett & his girlfriend megan

lucky dog was banished to the backyard during the party, where he proceeded to bark the entire time. he honestly barked non-stop for 2+ hours, and it was that annoying yelp-like bark, as if he were being stabbed. our poor neighbors. i'm thankful no one called the cops. sheesh. he sure was happy when we let him back inside. happy and exhausted, haha. what a mess of a dog.

after most of the guests had left, we went out in the front yard. the weather was perfect. warm and sunny and wonderful. strange how much it differs from year to year, last year it snowed on malcolm's second birthday!

malcolm & luc ran and ran around. they raced down the little hill, and luc rode that little car down the sidewalk like a maniac! it was so funny.

even vicky got in on the running :)

thanks to everyone who was able to make it out. a few friends weren't able to come, and we missed you. malcolm was so excited to have a party just for him, it was worth all the time spent cleaning, baking and preparing food etc., but next year we are definitely going the easy route, and celebrating at chuck-e-cheese's instead! ha!
