monkey joe's & happy mail

yesterday malcolm and i met up with alicia and luc at monkey joe's. this was the first time we had ever been there, but luc goes often and he loves it, so i knew malcolm would have a blast. he's been in bounce houses before, but nothing like these ones. a few of them were huge and pretty intimidating. he cried a couple of times, and i had to climb up and save him twice, but we had a lot of fun and we will definitely go again.

malcolm and luc

this big monster was the one that scared him. i convinced him to go with me a couple of times. it was pretty tall and even gave me butterflies in my tummy when we dropped down.

after an hour and half we had to leave to get alanna from school. malcolm was sweaty and hot and exhausted. $5 well spent!

we also got something special in the mail yesterday! it was a halloween care package sent by my mother. she is always so sweet to send us fun things, and we really love opening the boxes to see what is inside. kind of like christmas in october! :)

thanks so much mom! we loved all of it. i hung the banner (is that what it's called?) out on the front of our house today. it looks great.

p.s. we haven't carved our pumpkins yet, since just a few days ago it was 84 degrees outside!! what?! 84 degrees on october 27th! crazy! on the same day that it was so hot and humid here, it was dumping snow in salt lake city. strange how the weather works sometimes. it has cooled down now, and we wore hoodies and sweaters today. that's more like it.

friday favorite: ghosts in the house!

i'm sure i've already mentioned many times before that this season is my absolute favorite time of the year. we've been busy around here, trying to enjoy all of what october has to offer before it is gone (boo hoo). i've missed a few weeks of book posts, but i am back, and just in time for halloween. today i chose: ghosts in the house! by kazuno kohara. we've been to the book stores a few time this month, and i've been browsing the children's halloween books looking for something new, but many of them i already had or i wasn't really interested in. this book immediately caught my eye, and as soon as i opened it up, i was in love. it is a very simple story, easy to read, wonderfully illustrated (using just three colors), and totally cute. it's not scary, and is perfect for a little toddler. malcolm had fun reading it with me.

we have lots of fun things planned for this weekend, and i'm in the middle of making some tasty treats, so i am going to leave this post very short and sweet... exactly like this book, haha! i'm hoping that the stores will mark their halloween books on sale after the holiday has passed, so that i can snatch a few more up. if you happen to see this one, i would recommend getting a copy too. happy halloween! :)

hill ridge farms 2010

on friday we went to hill ridge farms again. we went last year, and loved it, so we are making it a new annual tradition. you can see last years post here. the weather was wonderful, the crowds were minimal, and we had a blast just like our previous trip. what a fun little place to enjoy some time outside during this beautiful season.

we thought this black bunny looked like our mama cat. malcolm has been talking about "the black mama cat bunny" ever since, haha.

the corn house is seriously so much fun!

cute little train that malcolm didn't want to ride on (?!)

hayride to the pumpkin field

we chose some wonderful pumpkins

when it was time to leave and the sun was setting, the moon started to rise. it was beautiful, but impossible to capture in a photo.

malcolm cried and cried when we left. he loves it there so much. i wish we could go more than once a year.
